Korean Olive Oil Fried Chicken Recipe

Korean olive oil fried chicken always holds a special place in our hearts. It holds the taste of light seasoning and a crispy layer. But people often remain reserved about eating them because of high cholesterol and saturated fats. 

A trick to cut off this additional fat is replacing vegetable oil with extra-virgin olive oil, a crucial part of Korean fried chicken. In addition, the essential nutrients present in olive oil make it a healthy meal.

Recipe to prepare Korean Fried Chicken with Olive oil

Korean Fried Chicken can be prepared with minimum effort, but you must keep a few things in mind. Let’s start with the recipe!

Main Ingredients of Korean Fried Chicken for 2 Servings

  • 6 pieces of chicken (Thighs, drumsticks, legs)
  • 2-3 cups extra virgin olive oil for deep frying

Ingredients for Chicken Marination

  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp dried soybean powder
  • ¼ tsp white pepper
  • ¼ tsp season-all salt
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp mustard powder
  • ½ tsp ginger powder

Ingredients for Flour Coating

  • 40 g potato starch
  • 90 g all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp mustard powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp ginger powder
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp white pepper powder

Ingredients for Batter

  • 20 g rice flour
  • 1 small egg
  • 10g all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp cayenne powder
  • ½ tsp dried mustard powder
  • 160 ml cold soda water

Directions for Preparing Korean Fried Chicken

Here are some easy-going steps to preparing Korean Fried Chicken.

Step 1. Chicken Marinade

  • Put chicken pieces into a big bowl, add all the ingredients, and mix well. 
  • Cover it with a lid and let it refrigerate for 2-4 hours, or It is better to marinate the chicken for at least 3 hours.
  • Put the marinated chicken at the average temperature for at least half an hour before frying.

Step 2. Prepare the Batter and the Flour

  • To prepare the batter, mix all the batter ingredients in a bowl and whisk together with water until you form a thick paste.
  • Take a deep dish and mix all the ingredients for flour coating.

Step 3. Chicken Coating

  • Put the chicken pieces in flour and dust off the excess powder.
  • Now put the chicken pieces into the batter and let it sink in completely. 
  • Coat it again with flour mixture and dust off the additional coating.

Step 4. Fry Chicken

  • Put a medium-sized heavy pan on the burner with medium flame and pour the extra virgin olive oil you can quickly get from Verde valley olive oil. Let it heat for 8-10 minutes until it gets ready for deep frying.
  • When you have coated all the pieces, dip them directly into the hot oil. 
  • Keep turning the sides after every 2 minutes.

The recipe is pretty easy, but you must see that the oil is hot before adding chicken. And apply the coating just before frying. It will have additional oil that can be wiped off with tissues.
