What can I add to the vinaigrette for flavor?

A little salt (I prefer kosher salt or sea salt) and pepper are the only other ingredients necessary for a fantastic and simple vinaigrette, as I mentioned in the recipe above (I prefer freshly ground black pepper).

The acidity of the vinegar is lessened using sugar or honey. Bonus if you use honey, which also functions as an emulsifier for salad dressing (more about emulsifiers in a bit).

If you wish, you can have even more fun! Here are some suggestions for additions to oil and vinegar salad dressings:

  • Balsamic vinaigrette

Employ balsamic vinegar. A small amount of sweeteners, such as brown sugar, honey, pure maple syrup, or granulated sugar, helps balance the acidity. Dijon mustard also contributes to this. For a milder balsamic dressing in flavor and appearance, I prefer to use white balsamic vinegar.

  • Herb vinaigrette

Add freshly chopped herbs like thyme, mint, cilantro, dill, basil, or parsley. You may also use dried herbs, but you should start with approximately a third dried and the rest fresh.

  • Ginger and garlic vinaigrette

Add prettily crushed ginger. Also, add fresh garlic that has been finely minced or, in a pinch, garlic powder.

  • Raspberry vinaigrette

Blend the remaining ingredients for the salad dressing with the raspberries, whether fresh or frozen. It works equally well with blueberries or strawberries! For every cup of sauce, use around half a cup of berries. A little shallot and honey drizzle also complement the dish nicely.

  • Shallot vinaigrette

Add some shallots that have been finely minced to the mix. Shallots are pretty flavorful! You can also include scallions or onions.

  • Dijon vinaigrette

Dijon mustard is the vinaigrette’s best friend because it enhances flavor and serves as an emulsifier. I’ll talk more about emulsifying shortly. For every cup of dressing, I prefer to add half a teaspoon to a teaspoon of Dijon mustard.
